FACILITIES
The Multimedia department at UNC Asheville maintains two media labs. These labs are located on the main campus and are equipped as follows:
The Karpen Hall lab has six Macintosh G5 workstations and six PCs which include dual processor SGI graphics workstations and four new Dells. There are also two media converters in the lab, a VCR for VHS import and export, a HI-8 videotape editing system, and a presentation projection system with inputs from PC or Mac. All are equipped with DVDRWs, CDRs, and Firewire inputs for digital video. Software installed includes Adobe CS Suite, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premiere, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Director, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Freehand, Macromedia Fireworks, Maya, Microsoft Office, and more.
The Robinson Hall lab is equipped with nineteen Macintosh dual-processor G5 workstations with DVD-RW drives. Six of the workstations are equipped with graphic drawing tablets; three are equipped with multipurpose media readers, with smart media and compact flash-reading capabilities. The lab also features a 'smart' whiteboard system that can record drawings and presentation material and store in digital format; one media converter; two scanners and a laser printer. Standard and stereo/3D projection systems are installed. The lab allows for the creation and production of all visual and multimedia design, animation, audio, film production and editing. Software installed includes Adobe CS Suite, Adobe After Effects, Apple FinalCut Pro, Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Director, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Freehand, Macromedia Fireworks, Maya, Microsoft Office and more.
The Multimedia Arts and Sciences department is also equipped with video cameras and still digital cameras which are available for student checkout.
