Home: A one-day exhibit of cutting-edge work by UNC Asheville digital video
art students explores the many concepts of "home" --- as shelter, a
state of mind, and as the human body. The show, which features
multi-channel video and multi-monitor installations, will be on view
from 11am to 7pm in UNC Asheville's Alumni Hall, located in Highsmith University Union.

Lorraine Walsh and MaryAnna LaFratta are Co-Principal Investigators of a
National Science Foundation grant entitled
Internships in Public Science
Education: Sensing the Radio Sky. It is a collaborative effort to visualize
specific sources of radio waves in the sky and involves the work of UNCA
Multimedia Arts & Sciences students; Physics and Multimedia Arts & Design
faculty and students from
Furman University;
and the
Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute.

Students in Susan Reiser and Rebecca Bruce's freshman
Robotics and the
Internet course worked with
Asheville Middle School (AMS) eighth graders on a month long service
project. Groups of UNCA students were teamed with AMS students to jointly
develop drawing robots. View the project reports

MaryAnna LaFratta's
Advanced Interactive Design students completed two
service-learning projects designing and developing digital learning tools. One
group of students worked together to develop an interactive magazine for the
English as a Second Language students at
Emma Elementary School. The other group designed and developed a learning
activity focused on shopping and basic concepts related to money for severely
disabled high school students enrolled in the Progressive Education Program at
TC Roberson High School.

Multimedia in Practice II students participated in the
Strive Not to Drive Film Festival & Video Contest here in Asheville,
North Carolina. MMAS student Andrew Kessinger's video work was awarded Best in
College Category.
